Q: Are these networking events free?
A: Yes. This is a free event for all alumni and we encourage students to participate as well.

Q: How does it work?
A: Alumni in several geographies and industries have volunteered to act as coordinators - Networking Captains - to help facilitate discussion and interaction. Look for the local Networking Captain on the roster on the home page or contact a member of the Commission if you want to volunteer to be a Captain in your area/industry. Captains schedule meetings or conference calls to enable people to meet and connect.

Q: How do I get involved?
A: You can volunteer to be a resource or become a Networking Captain in our region. The network is only as strong as the volunteers who participate. If you volunteer to become a resource, you are expected to be listed in the database and field calls and offer your expertise and experience to students and/or other alumni, either in their professional (work) field or geographic area or personal areas of interest (recreational activities and the like).

Q: Is this a job placement service that RPI is providing to Alumni?
A: No, the RAN is an alumni networking and career development initiative - by alumni for alumni - that is supported by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. While many alums will undoubtedly find jobs through the network, the core focus is on developing long-term relationships with fellow alumni who share similar interests and career pursuits.

Q: Is this the same as a Regional Chapter?
A: No. Regional Alumni Chapters offer a wide range of activities including social and professional meetings. The RAN focus is on career development, professional and personal growth. We will be working closely with the Regional Alumni Chapter leadership to coordinate and participate in their events.
