In 2005, my husband moved us to San Diego for his career. He is also an RPI grad, class of 2001. We had our first child in 2003 and I haven't been working since he was born. The job search was tough and limited to the San Diego area. My husband met John Barnick (Class of 1979) at an RPI picnic. Casual conversations about family and career turned into a dinner meeting which later became an interview. One year of frustration in the job search quickly translated into a job offer within few weeks. Fast forward 5 years and I am now an account executive for ABB. ABB needed a sales engineer with deep technical in power electronics. The RPI alumni network had helped me reached the hiring manager quickly and in a setting that was advantageous to my job search.
