Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes, your gift is tax-deductible. When you make a gift, you will receive a receipt from Rensselaer.

May I make a gift by mail?
Yes, checks may be sent to our secure lockbox at:

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Gifts Processing Center
P. O. Box 3164
Boston, MA 02241-3164

Please make your check out to “Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,” and in the memo line specify the name of the club you are supporting.  Having that notation in the memo line will enable us to ensure your gift is directed to the correct account.

How much do I have to give?
You may choose any amount greater than $1.  Every dollar counts and we hope you’ll be as generous as you are able!

Can I support more than one project?
Yes! Please support all of the projects you feel passionately about. Click here to support multiple projects in one transaction.

How long will the clubs be fundraising?
Fundraisers will be taking place through June 2016. Once a project meets its goal, another project is posted in its place. There will always be five fundraisers posted online at one time; check back often to see if there is a new project you are interested in supporting!

How did you pick projects?

The weR Gold Selection Committee was comprised of alumni donors who worked diligently to select projects with the potential for the greatest impact on the Rensselaer community, while appealing to a wide cross-section of alumni.

What happens when a project reaches its goal?

Once a project has met the stated fundraising goal, that project will be moved to the past projects page.  Additional contributions will be distributed to the student group to be used at the discretion of the students and their faculty or staff advisor, applying the money towards their organization’s overall mission and purpose.

The funded project will be removed from the featured page of the weR Gold website and another project will be added in its place. The quicker a project is funded, the more student groups will benefit!

Once a successful fundraiser is complete, how do the groups receive the funds?

Your contribution is deposited directly into the student organization's university budget account.  Rensselaer and student groups are committed to ensuring that your gift is used for its intended purpose.

What happens if a project does not hit its funding goal in the time allotted?
If a project does not reach its funding goal in the time allotted, your donation will be distributed to the student group to be used at the discretion of the students and their faculty or staff advisor, applying it towards their organization’s overall mission and purpose.

How do I know my gift will be spent wisely?
All projects are supervised by faculty or staff and/or recognized by the Rensselaer Union. They have been vetted to ensure that they have merit and to enrich the educational experiences of Rensselaer students. Students will only be able to spend the funding they receive on goods and services that are appropriate for the completion of their projects or closely aligned with the organization’s mission.

When will I be able to view updates from the groups I have supported?
The student groups will be posting project updates on their weR Gold website, as well as their social media outlets.  Visit often to browse success stories!

Does my weR Gold gift count towards my Annual Patroon Society recognition?
Yes, any gift to Rensselaer counts toward your status in the Annual Patroon Society for the current fiscal year (July 1 – June 30), as well as your lifetime giving. For more information about Young Alumni Patroon Society giving levels and other gift clubs, click here.

Does my weR Gold gift count towards the Rensselaer Annual Fund?
No, weR Gold gifts go directly to the student organization, not to the Annual Fund. The Rensselaer Annual Fund supports Rensselaer students, our future alumni.   By giving to the Rensselaer Annual Fund, alumni demonstrate pride in their alma mater, and inspire others to contribute to the success of our students. If you are interested in making a gift to the Annual Fund, please click here. Your gift to weR Gold and the Annual Fund counts in our overall participation numbers for our U.S. News and World Report rankings.

How do I make a gift?
Making a gift is simple. Find a project you want to support, click “donate now,” select a gift amount of your choice and click “next." Enter your contact information and billing information as instructed to complete your transaction.  All transactions are made on our secure, online giving site to ensure you receive proper credit and receipting for your contribution.

Is my gift eligible for corporate match?

I made a gift; when will it appear on the website?

How do we apply?
Applications are being accepted for the 2016 cycle.  Please click here for more information and to apply.

Who is eligible to apply for funding?
All students currently enrolled and in good standing with the Institute are eligible to apply on behalf of an organization or group. Projects must be affiliated with the Institute through an approved organization, academic, or research program. Projects may not be for profit. Projects must have the support of their club advisor. Additionally, organizations who submitted or were selected in the past for funding of weR Gold projects and/or organizations are invited to apply if they did not successfully achieve their goal and would like to continue the project

Can individual students apply for funding?
No. Funding will go to student groups or organizations.

How will projects be chosen?
Applications are reviewed and selected by a committee of Rensselaer volunteers. Projects are chosen based on their professionalism, innovativeness, social and community impact, commitment and promotions plan, and feasibility. Projects cannot be submitted for academic credit.

What types of projects qualify?
Projects must be completed within one year from the close of your fundraiser. If you have an on-going project that has defined completion stages, there may be the opportunity to apply for multiple fundraisers.

How long will my project be on the website?
Each project will be displayed from February through June, during a solicitation period where groups will be actively fundraising. Projects will remain on the website until they are funded. Once projects are funded, they will be archived on the website, so donors can see the impact of their gifts and be inspired to continue to support students.

What if my project is not selected initially?
The site will start with the 5 projects that received the highest ranking. Once a project reaches its fundraising goal, that project is removed from the website and the next highest ranked project will be added.

What if my project never makes it to the site?

If your project does not appear on the fundraising site, you may be eligible to obtain a fundraising account (if you do not already have one) and a custom giving URL for your club to accept gifts. Additional information will be provided to applicants.

How much funding may I request for my project?

Applicants may set their own fundraising goals. We like to have projects of varying sizes on the site and smaller projects may be funded more quickly. Please only apply for the amount necessary to complete your project.

If selected, what do we have to do?
This is a unique opportunity to share your idea with potential donors. It is essential that students promote their own project to ensure its success. If selected, participants must participate in the following activities:
  • Utilize your own networks to promote your project and drive donors to the site.
  • Take part in the donor acknowledgement process by preparing a personal thank-you to be sent to donors by the Office of Annual Giving.
  • Document your project through photos or video, providing monthly updates on your progress for your project page to the Office of Annual Giving.
