Your Participation Helps the Next Generation of Rensselaer Alumni

Join Your Classmates and Give Back in Honor of Your Reunion

Reunion & Homecoming is a great time to make a gift to Rensselaer in honor of your Class, affinity group, or team. Your gift helps the next generation of Rensselaer alumni—our current students. You can become a part of history by joining your classmates, teammates, and friends, and making your gift to Rensselaer at Reunion & Homecoming.

Reunion Class Giving: A Special Tradition

In October, your class will be celebrating Reunion! Whether you graduated five years ago or fifty years ago, now is the time to participate in your Reunion.

Why Join Your Class?  Your Participation Makes a Difference!

Each year, hundreds of our loyal and generous alumni make special gifts in honor of their Reunion. This is an important and exciting tradition, and class gift competitions are one of the highlights of the weekend. Some classes have already begun special campaigns in recognition of their milestone Reunion:

Participation rates can have a major impact on institutional reputation. U.S. News & World Report considers undergraduate alumni participation rates as a barometer of alumni satisfaction and factors them into its rankings. Rankings create reputation, reputation affects enrollment, and enrollment affects tuition revenue. Overall giving rates to all schools, including Rensselaer, are factored in national rankings. If we can raise the percentage of donors to Rensselaer by only a few percentage points, our national ranking will increase, and your degree and the degrees of today’s students, will be that much more valuable!

One way that you can show your pride and excitement is with a gift in support of Rensselaer. The Annual Fund contributes to every aspect of the student experience, and allows students to attend this incredible school, with its renowned facilities, professors, and opportunities for research.

Why is your participation so important? Annual gifts help ensure the continued excellence of the Rensselaer experience. Plus, participation sends a message to the world about the quality of the Rensselaer degree and alumni success.  Please consider the following:

  • Value of a Rensselaer degree: Parents and prospective students look at national rankings and alumni participation rates as indications of how satisfied alumni are with the school and quality of the degree. Think of a diploma as if it were a stock certificate. As the quality of the institution grows, so does the value of your degree!
  • National ranking: U.S. News and World Report use participation rates when calculating rankings. Right now, Rensselaer overall alumni giving rates lags behind that of other national universities, but you can change that!
  • Financial strength: Annual giving is an essential resource for the university. Corporations and foundations look to alumni participation rates as a key measure of alumni satisfaction in their alma mater because they believe their philanthropic research dollars should go to an institution with proven results.

If you haven’t done so already, please join your classmates, and participate today!

Get Involved: We Need You! Volunteering is an excellent way to get involved with your class and make a difference to Rensselaer students. Classes will focus on fundraising to benefit the Rensselaer Annual Fund and/or class scholarships.

Reconnect: It's Never Too Late! Reunion & Homecoming Weekend is a wonderful time to reconnect with classmates, teammates, Greek brothers and sisters, and friends. A fall Reunion takes place on a campus alive with students and faculty.

It's participation that really counts, so please step forward and support your Reunion class gift or affinity group today! Join us at giving.rpi.edu/now.

See Your Generosity in Action -- A Tax-Saving Way to Make a Difference:  A permanent provision has been signed into law that allows you to make a tax-free gift from your individual retirement account (IRA). This law allows you to make yearly gifts to charitable organizations such as ours through a direct transfer from your IRA without paying taxes on the amount you transfer. This is an excellent way to impact the next generation in honor of your Reunion!  For more information and to download our IRA distribution form, please visit our website.
